Andy Murray will face Kevin Anderson in the second round of the Rogers Cup after the South African beat Pablo Andujar in straight sets.
The 6ft 8ins Anderson,
ranked 35 in the world, needed just over one and a half hours to defeat his opponent 6-4 6-4.Switzerland's 14th seed Stanislas Wawrinka overcame Argentina's
David Nalbandian 6-1 6-4 victory in one hour and nine minutes.Former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero lost 3-6 6-1 7-5 to Latvian wild card Ernests Gulbis while big-serving Ivo Karlovic was a 6-7 (7-2) 6-3 7-6 (7-5) winner over Juan Monaco.
Other early winners included Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov, who beat wild card Erik Chovojka 6-3 5-7 6-4, plus Alex Bogomolov Jr, Thomaz Bellucci and Ivan Dodig.
